How to play KAY/O

KAY/O is an Initiator, so his primary goal is to provide his team with information and set them up for good site entries. His flash and molly are pretty straightforward and quite traditional from a tactical FPS point of view. However, his Knife and his Ultimate are quite unique.

Although KAY/O's molly doesn't do much upfront damage, it's radius is fairly large. It is a great tool to clear corners or protect the planted Spike. His flash is very simple yet very effective. It can be thrown far away to set up your Duelists rushing onto the site or thrown short to set up individual plays in close combat.

His Signature ability is a very versatile tool on both attack and defense. Besides the sole purpose of suppressing the enemies, it is very often used simply as a recon ability. Since it is on a 40-second cooldown, use it early in the round to scout for information, and you will have it again later in the round.

His Ultimate has a huge radius, so it can cover most of the bomb sites in Valorant. It is a fantastic tool for shutting down enemy defensive setups, especially Sentinels and Controllers' utility. A great example is KAY/O completely throwing Killjoy out of the meta on some maps she used to be irreplaceable on.

Alongside setting up your teammates, KAY/O has a lot of potential to make individual plays. Since he can set himself up with molly and flashes and force enemies into unfavorable gunfights, KAY/O can be utilized as a pseudo Duelist in a way, especially with the revive ability on his Ultimate.

Team compositions and position in the meta

Over time, KAY/O has risen from being considered underpowered to an S-tier Agent. Players and teams gradually figured out how to properly utilize his kit, especially in high-elo and pro play.

In the recent meta, double-Initiator team compositions have emerged as very strong in many cases. KAY/O perfectly finds his place in those scenarios, as he can be used as a secondary Initiator alongside another traditional one such as Sova, Fade, or Breach.

As already mentioned, he is a direct counter to Agents such as Killjoy, Cypher, Astra, etc. His disruptive ability can be used in various team comps and different maps, but he is especially effective on Ascent and Icebox.
