MSI Group Draw Results

MSI Group Draw Results

With the 2022 MSI fast approaching, the groups have been drawn for the first stage of the tournament.

After their perfect regular split in LCK, T1 will face off against Japan’s DFM and Latin America’s Team Aze in Group 1. After being prevented by COVID from competing internationally for 2 years, Vietnam’s Saigon Buffalo round out Group 1 and are hoping to make up for missed opportunities.

RNG completed in the reverse sweep in the LPL finals, and will compete against Brazil’s Red Canids, PSG from the PCS, and Turkey’s Istanbul Wildcats. Unfortunately, RNG will be playing remotely due to COVID restrictions and all teams will be playing on 35ms to maintain as much competitive integrity as possible.

The classic NA vs EU rivalry will once again be played out in Group C, as EG and G2 will face off. Both teams dominated in their respective finals and made the losers’ bracket run to qualify for MSI, so we could be in for some spicy games. The final team in Group C is Oceania’s ORDER, who will be hoping to replicate Pentanet’s historic success from last year.

Tournament Overview

During the Groups Stage, teams will play best of ones in a double round robin against the other teams in their group. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Rumble Stage, where the remaining teams will face off against each other in a double round robin in best-of-one games.

Once the Rumble Stage has concluded, the top 4 teams will advance to the Knockout stage. The semi-finals will be two best-of-five series, with the losers being eliminated from the tournament. The winners will advance to the final, and the chance to claim the MSI 2022 trophy.

All the action kicks off on May 10th!
