LOUD Gaming win 2022 Valorant Champions
Brazilian LOUD Gaming is the best Valorant team in the world. In the 2022 Valorant Champions Grand final, LOUD defeated NA's OpTic Gaming 3-1. They became the first non-EU or NA team to win a major international Valorant tournament.
First, LOUD defeated OpTic in the Upper bracket finals. OpTic secured a rematch in the Grand final vs. LOUD by defeating Korean DRX 3-2. However, OpTic wasn't a match for the Brazilian squad that secured the trophy.
Reykjavik rematch
We had a very similar scenario at the first Major of 2022 in Reykjavik. LOUD defeated OpTic in the Upper finals, who then won the Lower bracket final. OpTic was able to win their Grand final rematch back then, but LOUD was on another level this time around.
The match kicked off with a tight double overtime win on Ascent for LOUD. Then, OpTic tied the score with a quick 13-6 Bind victory. The third map was the crucial point of the series, as LOUD took home Breeze 16-14. They finally closed out the match with a comfortable win 13-5 on Haven.
After EMEA's Acend, LOUD becomes a second Valorant World champion. After their lackluster performance in Copenhagen, LOUD bounced back big time to achieve Valorant glory.
Record viewership
Besides a massive crowd in Volkswagen Arena in Istanbul, 2022 Valorant Champions broke the game's record in all viewership categories. With over 500 thousand average viewers and 60 million hours watched, it became the most viewed event in Valorant.
Another record was broken during the finals, as the match peaked at over 1.5 million viewers. It broke the previous record from the 2021 Valorant Champions finals between Gambit and Acend by over 500 thousand.
It shows that Valorant is far from a dead game and is here to stay. With competitive Valorant for 2022 behind us, we turn towards 2023 and a new VCT format.
