Harbor Agent Guide
Riot Games introduced a new Controller Agent named Harbor to kick off Episode Five: Act III. Harbor uses the power of ancient technology to bend water at will to create advantages for himself and his teammates.
Harbor is a very specific and quite unique Controller and requires an excellent understanding of his abilities. They are very powerful and high-impact, with great potential on both Attack and Defense.
Harbor Ability Guide
Signature Ability - High Tide: Harbor equips a wall of water. He sends the water forward along the ground. He is able to guide the water in the direction of your crosshair, passing through the world, spawning a wall along the water’s path. Use ALT fie while bending to stop the water early. Players hit are slowed.
Q - Cove: Harbor equips a sphere of shielding water. Use Fire to throw and Alt-Fire to underhand throw. Upon impacting the ground, spawn a water shield that blocks bullets.
C - Cascade: Harbor equips a wave of water and sends the wave rolling forward and through walls. You can also stop the wave by reusing the ability. Players hit are slowed.
Ultimate Ability - Reckoning: Harbor equips the full power of the Artifact. He summons a geyser pool on the ground. Enemy players in the area are targeted by successive geyser strikes. Players caught within a strike are concussed.
How to play Harbor
Although Harbor is a Controller by default, he falls into a category of hybrid Agents such as Chamber and Viper. Alongside being able to fulfill the Controller role, Harbor is capable of executing various Initiator duties.
As a Controller, Harbor's primary objective is to use his utility to cover the most dangerous and difficult to hold angles for his teammates. His smokes and his wall are great tools to achieve just that, as he is capable of covering a massive area of the map.
However, his initiating skills are what make Harbor very exciting, especially when paired up with another primary Initiator. Use your signature ability to block off the common angles enemies are likely holding to facilitate your push. It sets you up to use your Cascade ability which can take a lot of space for your team when entering a site.
Finally, use your Cove ability to secure a safe plant for you or your teammate. However, if you feel you can plant safely regardless, it is a good idea to save it for the post plant because its bullet-dodging ability can always come in handy and put pressure on the enemy later on in the round.
His Ultimate ability is a cherry on top of Harbor's crazy kit and a great way to obliterate a bomb site. It acts similarly to Breach and Fade Ultimates, gaining a lot of information while creating chaos on the site. It is a very potent tool, especially on a "Controller."
Team compositions and position in the meta
Although it is still very early to tell for sure how Harbor will fit the meta, his kit seems too good not to have an impact. His hybrid Controller/Initiator playstyle is extremely valuable, and Harbor looks hot to shake up the meta.
His wall is a must-have on large maps, while his Cove provides a level of safety unseen in Valorant so far. On the other hand, his Ultimate can obliterate small bomb sites, and his Cascade is fantastic for creating space during site takes.
Agent number twenty on the Valorant roster looks to be the "jack of all trades" and has a lot of potential and skill expression. His versatility makes him viable in various team compositions. Yet, he works best when paired up with another Initiator and a Dueslit capable of taking advantage of the space Harbor creates.
