Halo Infinite Season 2 Teases: What to Expect From “Lone Wolves”
343 Industries announced Season 2 of Halo Infinite last week and we are less than two weeks away from experiencing all of the new content. Dubbed “Lone Wolves”, the new season will introduce two new maps - Catalyst and Breaker, as well as three new modes as part of the content drop.
King of the Hill
343 Industries is bringing back King of the Hill with a twist. The revamped mode will feature a neutral hill that spawns on the map and two teams battle it out to control the hill to secure points. When a player enters the hill uncontested, it is captured and begins earning 1 point per second into a capture bar. When a team’s capture bar is full, they score 1 point and a new hill spawns somewhere else on the map.
- Each hill now has a Control Meter and teams can fill the meter by occupying hills uncontested. Anytime a hill is contested, players will be unable to earn Control meter progress.
- Teams that fill the Control Meter earn one point.
- When hills are unoccupied, the ownership decays back into neutral territory.
- In Quick Play, the first hill is always equidistant from both teams but all hills thereafter are randomized.
- In Ranked, the hill sequence is pre-determined every match.
All King of the Hill matches will take advantage of the Objective Clock mechanic. Similar to the Oddball game mode, the Match timer will only deplete when the Hill is unoccupied by any players.
Land Grab
There are three neutral zones that can be captured by players to secure points. When all zones are captured, the zones reset and three new neutral zones spawn. The first team to secure 11 points wins.
Land grab was designed with a multi-zone objective in mind and it is designed to work in all mirror-symmetrical maps. It seeks to resolve a lot of the issues that are present in the Strongholds mode. The dev team chose 11 points for the mode because the matches progress in sets of three points and having 11 points ensures that Land Grab matches end in three zone-sets very frequently.
Last Spartan Standing
The Last Spartan Standing mode is designed around Season 12’s Lone Wolves theme. It is a free-for-all mode with 12 players who spawn in with confined loadouts and five respawns. Once players run out of respawns, they are eliminated. Players can earn upgrades by securing kills and the game ends when there is one Spartan left standing.
Unlike the previous two modes that are designed around existing modes, Last Spartan Standing was built from scratch. The game mode does away with any sort of objectives and your only goal is to survive and be the last player standing. It is a take on free-for-all modes in other games but 343 Industries has tried to keep snowballing mechanics in check to offer players a fair experience.
Breaker and Catalyst Maps
Catalyst is reminiscent of Coliseum from Halo 5 which was designed to offer competitive and symmetrical action. While the map is completely new it shares design philosophies from other maps in previous Halo titles.
Breaker is a pseudo symmetric BTB map that is built on the Banished scrapyard. Each team’s base is a huge chunk of debris and the map is divided by a cutting beam structure in the center.
The new season will kick off on May 3 and conclude on November 7. 343 Industries has decided to increase the season length from three months to six months starting from Season Two.
