First Look TFT: Monsters Attack!
The new set is finally coming to TFT in Patch 12.23 on December 7. There are system changes, new units, traits, and augments. The final numbers for units and traits are still being updated by Riot after continuous feedback given by the community.
Systems
There are multiple changes to systems in the new set, but one of the biggest ones is Hero Augments, an update to the existing Augment system. For instance, all players are offered a Hero Augment at the same time with options of units all of the same cost bucket. Hero Augments will also be semi-tailored for your board, meaning you’ll get some fairly intuitive choices to fit the comp you already have. And no matter which Hero Augment you pick, you’ll always receive a copy of the champion it heroicized.
You’ll get to choose from one of three Hero Augments, just like regular Augments. Your offerings will be of the same cost bucket, ranging between units of plus or minus one gold. In TFT, calculation won’t make a Hero, but playing flexibly with Augments sure can.
Unlike some of the silver screen heroes, a champion’s net worth doesn’t prevent them from becoming a Hero. Hero Augment options change as the game goes on with 1 to 2-cost units being the most commonly offered at early stages, 2 to 3-cost units being most common during the Stage 3-2 selection, and 3 to 4-cost units being most common at Stage 4-2. 5-cost unit Augments can also be seen at Stage 4-2, but this is pretty rare according to Riot.
Traits
Going into the Monsters Attack! set, there was a huge overhaul to existing traits. A lot of them were removed while other new interesting ones were added to the game. A couple of them which will be added are:
- Mecha:Prime - With Mecha:Prime active, your designated PRIME unit will fuse with the two closest other Mecha units, combining their Health & Attack.
- Recon - Always on the hunt, Recon units gain additional Range. After casting a spell, if there's an enemy in an adjacent hex, Recon units will dash away to safety.
- Prankster - Pranksters are exactly that. The first time they fall below half Health, they swap places with a target dummy and restore a large amount of Health.
Units
Going into the Monsters Attack! set some units were removed while other news was added. The biggest change is the removal of 2 team slot Dragons with Riot announcing that they'll be taking a break from such units in the near future. A couple of revealed champions are:
- Project Ashe
- Hextech Poppy
- IBlitzcrank
- Project Renekton
- Empyrean Zac
- Guardian of the Sands Rammus
- Bel Veth
