Astral Cup Weekend 1 Event Recap

The first cup of set 7 began during the previous weekend with the top 160 players from NA  showing their skills in a battle that gives them a monetary reward and qualifiers points for the main event later during the year.

The Astral Cup has a four-day format that began on the weekend of July 1 and ends on the weekend of July 9. While some players were auto-qualified, others have to go undergo through multiple lobbies against tough opponents to have a chance to reach the final day to earn a share of the prize pool of $7,500 and qualifier points from 6 to 35 depending on player's placement during the tournament.

Format

Day 1 (July 1): 128 players play 6 games with lobbies being reseeded every 2 games. Top 64 move on to Day 2.

Day 2 (July 2): 64 players play 6 games with lobbies being reseeded every 2 games. Top 32 move on to Day 3, joining the 32 auto-qualified players.

Day 3 (July 9): 64 players play 6 games with lobbies being reseeded every 2 games. Top 32 move on to Day 4.

Day 4 (July 10): 32 players play 5 games with lobbies being reseeded every 2 games. Top 8 move onto the Final Lobby. Final Lobby: The 8 remaining players play an additional 2 games without a point reset. Top 8 qualify to Day 3 of Jade Cup. Top 4 qualify to Dragonlands Mid-Set Finale.

Weekend 1 event recap

Dace emerged victorious after the second day of the cup, finishing his matches with a score of 43. He alongside 31 other participants are qualified for the third day of the tournament, where they'll be matched with 32 auto-qualified players to play 6 games and determine the final top 32 who will head into the final day of the tournament.

The most popular and successful Dragons picked during the tournament were Shi oh Yu, Sy'fen, and Ao Shin. While the first two days had no official broadcasts, the last two days of the tournament during the next weekend will do. You can tune in to watch the remaining 64 players clash against each other starting on July 9 at 1Pm PDT.
